Why we have sectors

In an emergency situation, WCRG is an information tree. Wānaka is a big place, and information starts hyperlocal, someone on your street knows what's happening on your street before anyone else does.

That's what the sectors are for. Each one has a sector coordinator and radio sets who gather what's happening in their patch and radio it through to the Emergency Hub. From there it goes to the EOC, the Emergency Operations Centre, run by Otago CDEM (Civil Defence Emergency Management). They take the full picture from all nine sectors and use it to work out where the response is needed most.

It works the other way too. Confirmed information from official channels comes back down the same path, through the Hub and out to sector radio operators, so people in their own neighbourhoods get reliable updates rather than rumours.

Nine sectors cover Wānaka. Find yours on the map below.
